All Important Facts about Delhi International Airport

Indira Gandhi International Airport, situated in Delhi is a major airport of India. It serves domestic and international passengers. Located in the capital city of Delhi, it is a link between the major cities of India as well various countries. It is operated by the Indian Air Force and it has four terminals. IGI operates 60 airlines like Indian Airlines, SpiceJet, Air India Regional and IndiGo Airlines. Located at a distance of 16 km from the city centre, traveler can choose to commute by bus, auto rickshaw or private taxi.


Terminals at IGI


Terminal 1- This terminal is further divided into terminal 1 A, C and D. Terminal 1A, it caters to domestic flights of Go Air, Indian Airlines and Air India Regional. Terminal 1C operates low cost carrier domestic arrivals like GoAir, IndiGo, Spice-Jet and Paramount. On the other hand terminal 1D operates low cost carrier domestic departures.


Terminal 2-This terminal caters to the airlines flying to major cities across the world.


Terminal3- This is one of the largest passenger terminal that handles 34 million passengers annually. Terminal 3 has 168 check-in counters, 30 parking bays, 72 immigration counters, 15 X-ray screening areas and various duty-free shops.


Hajj terminal- This terminal handles the rush of passengers during Hajj.


International airlines that operate from IGI Airport areAeroflot, Aerosvit, Air Arabia, Air Astana, Air Canada, Air China, Air France, Air India, Air India Express, Air Mauritius, Alitalia, American Airlines, Ariana Afghan, Asiana, Austrian, Azerbaijan Airlines, Biman Bangladesh, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, China Airlines, China Eastern, China Southern, Continental Airlines, Cosmic Air, Delta, Druk Air, Emirates, Etihad and Ethiopian etc. Domestic airlines operating from IGI are Air India Go Air, MDLR Airlines, Jagson Airlines, Indigo, Kingfisher Airlines, Kingfisher Red, Go Air, Jet Airways, Jetlite, SpiceJet and Paramount Airways.


Facilities as Delhi airport


Delhi airport provides various services to the guest that includes Wireless internet services. Disabled passengers on wheelchairs are provided with facilities of reserved parking slots, ramps, and bathrooms. Money exchange counters and ATMs are inside the terminals. Airport has an infant lobby with toys, baby cot and a female assistant is also available, in every terminal. Railway Reservation Counter is located outside the custom hall, giving facility to the passengers to book their railway tickets from this counter.


Whenever a tourist enters Delhi the first thing he looks for is, an accommodation facility situated nearby airport. The alternative hotels near the airport are mostly located along National Highway in Mahipalpur. There are various categories of hotel ranging from five stars, four stars and budget.
